My Approach
My approach is all about helping the client find their own pathway to change. I draw on a range of techniques including mindfulness, compassion focused therapy and elements of CBT to find the best fit for the client to help increase their awareness and reach their inner strengths.
Therapy sessions offer a calm, confidential space to tell your story, trusting that you will be listened to, accepted and treated with respect and warmth. I work with compassion to help you deal with the issues you want to explore, putting you back in control. I aim to help you do this in as short a time as possible so you can get on with living a happier and more fulfilled life.
The transformational work of therapy does not end with the sessions and a key part of my approach is to help clients build their resilience to manage the unpredictability of life ahead. Change can sometimes take a while to settle into life. With this in mind I like to offer a free "Check In" phone call in the months after therapy to reflect on the impact the sessions have had.
"People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be...
I don't try to control a sunset.
I watch with awe as it unfolds."

Hypnosis explained
Hypnosis describes a pleasant, relaxed state of mind which is focussed and absorbed. It is a familiar, natural state we all experience in different ways every day. This could be an experience such as watching a film, reading or meditating, an activity such as running, yoga or solving a puzzle, or a train of thought, where you drift off, daydreaming. Children fully absorbed in their imaginative play or listening to a story are experiencing this state of mind.
It is a restorative state where our conscious mind can rest and we can recharge. It is particularly useful in a therapeutic sense because as the conscious mind rests, it allows the subconscious part of our mind to be more open and receptive to learning alternative ways of thinking and behaving. In sessions the therapist can gently guide the client into this state offering the opportunity to make the changes and shifts in thoughts and behaviours the client wants at a more subconscious level.
Throughout this experience the client is pleasantly aware and fully in control (just as they would be if they were engrossed in a great film). The client can decide to stop at any time and open or close their eyes. People often report feeling a sense of peace and renewed energy afterwards.
